We're keen on supporting the open source community in a variety of capacities and one way we've elected to extend support is by sponsoring web hosting services for those who develop open source applications; after all, we utilize open source technology on a daily basis. To site a specific example: we were recently introduced to a company called Kontrollsoft that specializes in relational database software. For them, after assessing their needs, we created a production environment, and also an environment for their application development on (2) managed dedicated servers. The particular application we are hosting for them is called Kontrollbase which is summarized below: "Kontrollbase is a monitoring, analytics, reporting, and historical analysis webapp for MySQL database servers. It is an enterprise grade application that is built on the open-source software model. It provides you with tools and tuning recommendations to automate the administration of hundreds and even thousands of database servers. It offers the same, and in many cases, more features than competing commercial software offerings but without the hefty price tag for support or licensing. MySQL has always been a free relational database — shouldn’t the monitoring software be free too? Try Kontrollbase and see why enterprises all over the world are praising this open-source application."Click here to learn more about Kontrollbase. I took the screenshot below - to show an example of kontrollbase's webapp for MySQL database servers:

Back in March, we sponsored an event at NedSpace called Portland Startup Weekend.  In this post we wanted to provide a quick update on how the startups (that were formed at the event) are doing - as we continue to track their progress. It is an exciting and busy time for a number of new companies in the area. Watching these companies build from the ground up is both inspiring and intriguing and we want you to be able to get to know them as well, while experiencing their journey. One company to keep an eye on is CPUsage. As they describe it "CPUsage is a service that harnesses the power of the world’s unused computing power and distributes it to companies wanting to reduce processing time, lower costs and become more green." They take the power of idle computers and use it for large processing resources.Another team we're hosting is Habitat Power Corporation, where they believe in "Changing the World One Habitat at a Time." Their efforts are all for the good of communities and utilizing the resources we have in order to reduce fossil fuels and help to minimize pollution. While both of them are innovative in their own ways they also both bring in the power of being green and advocate the use of already made products. As these companies are just now starting out, we encourage you to keep checking back so you too can see the progress and growth they experience. We'll be posting more information on other up and coming companies in the near future as well. We're happy to support Portland's entrepreneurs and once again want to congratulate the success of Portland Startup Weekend 2010.

A rounded education is very important for the youth of our society, this includes music education. One organization that is working to incorporate more music in the lives of children is Music Education Matters. This group's goal is "to have quality music programs equitably represented at every school in the Beaverton School District from Kindergarten through the 12th grade." It is because of dedicated people that goals like these can be accomplished and we wanted to help them by sponsoring their website. "Music within the education process is an invaluable tool for today and tomorrow's youth.  We sincerely appreciate the efforts of Music Education Matters and principles they stand by," explains Network Redux President, Thomas Brenneke. We want to help provide today's youth with every possibility for success and encourage a positive and bright future.

By now everyone is well aware of the tragic oil spill along the Gulf Coast. It is now estimated that between 19 million and 39 million gallons of oil have leaked into the Gulf of Mexico. This means that anywhere between 5,000-6,000 barrels of oil are leaked every day. The National Wildlife Federation reported that more than 150 endangered sea turtles and 316 sea birds are dead. On top of this there have been 1,000 miles of wetlands and beaches put at high risk, fisheries damaged and the looming threat of Hurricane season and the devastating affects it would have on the Atlantic Coast. There is no question that this disastrous event has impacted the lives of many.To create change during a time like this takes a continued effort. A significant contributor to this cause is the Waterkeeper Alliance group who run the Save Our Gulf website. Their goal is "to coordinate the efforts of Gulf Waterkeepers who are fighting to protect the Gulf Coast, its communities and environment, from the devastating BP oil disaster." Waterkeepers are the voice of the waterways and their communities and strive to protect and maintain the environmental laws. In order for the Waterkeeper Alliance to continue putting their efforts toward what matters, NR will be sponsoring and hosting their website.   Our goal is to make a contribution to the continued success of the Waterkeeper Alliance. To learn more about Save Our Gulf and to find out how you can help, please visit their website.
